Overview
Item Transfer is enabled from the Table Session modal’s Move Items mode. You select items on the source table, then pick a target table, and only those items move. Everything else — the rest of the bill, the discounts, the waiter, the guest count — stays where it is.Enter Move Items mode
- Open the source table.
- In the Table Session modal, tap Move Items.
- The item list becomes selectable. Checkboxes appear beside each line.

Move Items mode — pick items, then choose a target
- Tap the items you want to move. Tap them again to deselect.
- Tap Choose target. A picker shows valid target tables.
- Pick the target. Confirm.
What can be moved
- Un-sent items in the cart: moved cleanly.
- Sent items already on KDS: moved on the bill, and the KDS ticket is updated to show the new table name.
- Discounted items: the discount travels with the item.
- Voided items: cannot be transferred — voids are terminal.
Valid target rules
Item Transfer is stricter than table transfer. A target must be:- Active — must already have an open session. You can’t transfer items to a free table (open it first, or use a table transfer).
- Not split — the split lock blocks item transfers, just like it blocks merges.
- Not merged — merged secondaries are not selectable. If you need to move into a merged group, target the primary.
Split lock and item transfers
If the source or target has an active split, item transfer is blocked. The split references specific line items; letting them move would silently break the split logic. Resolve the split first (pay it, or clear it), then transfer.Kitchen implications
When you move a sent item:- The KDS ticket for that item retags to the new table.
- If the item is already being prepared, the kitchen sees the retag in real time.
- If the item is already completed, the runner needs to know verbally where to deliver it now.
Item transfers are audit-logged. Managers can see who moved what, when, and between which tables in the shift report and manager audit log.
Tips & best practices
Common mistakes
- Trying to transfer to a free table. Open the target first, or use a full Table Transfer.
- Trying to move a voided item. Voids are terminal. Add a new item on the target if needed.
- Item transfer with an active split. Blocked. Clear the split first.
- Moving items after kitchen has plated. Runner delivers to the old seat. Communicate verbally.
