Clock in at the start of every shift. This records the opening float, links every subsequent action to the staff member, and starts payroll time tracking.

Overview

Clock-in captures:
  • Staff name and role
  • Terminal and branch
  • Opening cash float (for cashiers)
  • Timestamp — the payroll start

Clock in

Non-cashier roles (waiters, kitchen) can clock in without a float — the float step is skipped automatically.

Tips & best practices

Count the drawer with a witness. Two-person counts eliminate almost all opening-float disputes.

Common mistakes

Do not clock in on behalf of a co-worker. Every action after clock-in is tied to your PIN.
