# Pricing

DishInk uses a two-level pricing system. Every item has a **base price** that applies everywhere by default. On multi-location accounts, individual branches can override the base price or hide the item entirely.

## Setting a base price

The base price is set in the item's edit form under **Price (K)**. This price applies to all locations unless a branch override is set.

To update a base price:

1. Go to **Front Operations → Manage Menu**
2. Click **Edit** on the item
3. Update the Price field and click **Save Changes**

## Branch price overrides (multi-location)

On multi-location accounts, each branch can have its own price for any item. This is useful when the same dish costs more at a city-centre location than at a suburban one.

### Opening the branch price editor

Click the **Locations** button (📍) on any item row to open the Branch Price Editor. It shows all your branches with their current override status.

### Setting a branch price

1. Find the branch row in the editor
2. Enter a price in the **K** field — leave it blank to use the base price
3. Click **Save \[Branch] Price**

Each branch saves independently. You can set different prices for each location in the same session.

### Resetting to base price

If a branch has an override, a **Reset** button appears on its row. Click it to remove the override and revert to the base price.

### Hiding an item at a specific branch

Use the **Visible / Hidden** toggle on the branch row to hide the item at that location. Hidden items do not appear on that branch's public menu or POS.

A red **Hidden** badge and a warning message appear when an item is set to hidden.

<Note>
  Hiding an item at a branch is different from marking it unavailable globally. A hidden item only disappears at that specific branch — all other branches are unaffected.
</Note>

## Override indicators

Items with branch overrides show a small **N location overrides** badge next to the base price in the menu list. This lets you quickly see which items have been customised per branch.

## Branch staff and pricing

Branch staff with the `can_manage_menu` permission but without full multi-location access can only manage prices for their own branch. When they click **Edit** (shown as **Set Price**) on an item, they are taken directly to the branch price editor for their location only. They cannot edit the base price or see other branches.

## Tips & best practices

<Tip>
  Set your base price to the most common price across your locations. Only set overrides for branches where the price genuinely differs — this keeps the branch price editor clean.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  If an item is not sold at a particular branch at all, hide it at that branch rather than setting a zero price. Hidden items don't appear on the menu or POS, which avoids confusion for staff.
