# Navigation Overview

DishInk uses a single consistent shell across every module. The sidebar and top bar stay fixed while the main content area changes as you move between sections.

## Top bar

The top bar runs across the full width of the screen on desktop and contains:

| Element                           | Purpose                                                                                |
| --------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Sidebar toggle**                | Show or hide the left sidebar                                                          |
| **Front ops / Back ops switcher** | Jump between your public-facing tools and your restaurant operations                   |
| **Staff badge**                   | Shows the currently logged-in staff member with a quick logout / switch account button |
| **Location switcher**             | Appears only for multi-location accounts — switch between branches without logging out |
| **Page title**                    | Displays the current module name (e.g. `DISHINK POINT OF SALE`)                        |

## Left sidebar

The sidebar is divided into two sections that you can collapse or expand independently.

### Front Operations

Tools for managing your public-facing restaurant presence:

* Front Ops Dashboard
* Manage Menu
* Add Menu Item
* Website Content
* Website Gallery
* Bookings & Messages
* Online Orders
* Events Management
* QR Codes

### Back Operations

Restaurant operations tools (requires Growth Pro):

* Operations Dashboard
* Kitchen Display System
* Table Management
* Waiter Interface
* Point of Sale
* Inventory Management
* Staff Management
* HRM & Payroll Suite
* Business Analytics (with Kitchen, Revenue, Menu, and Staff sub-views)
* LAN Monitor

  Back Operations items are locked behind the Growth Pro plan. Locked items appear greyed out with a **Growth Pro +** label. Individual sub-items within Analytics can also be restricted per staff permission.

### Collapsing the sidebar

Click the **chevron button** on the right edge of the sidebar to collapse it to icon-only mode. Click the **panel icon** in the top bar to hide it entirely. Both states are remembered across sessions.

## Front ops vs Back ops

The **Front ops / Back ops** switcher in the top bar controls which section appears at the top of your sidebar. Set it to whichever you use most — DishInk remembers your preference.

## Bottom of sidebar

The bottom strip contains your account controls:

| Control                    | Purpose                                              |
| -------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Staff badge**            | Your name and role while logged in as a staff member |
| **Settings**               | Front Ops Settings and Back Ops Settings (dropdown)  |
| **Clock In / My Earnings** | Visible to staff only — attendance and pay tracker   |
| **View Site**              | Opens your public restaurant page in a new tab       |
| **Theme toggle**           | Cycles between Light, Dark, and System theme         |
| **Logout**                 | Signs out and returns to the login screen            |

## Mobile navigation

On mobile, the sidebar is hidden by default behind a **hamburger menu button** in the top-left corner. Tap it to open the full sidebar as a slide-in drawer. Tap outside it or the × button to close.

  On tablets in portrait mode the sidebar is hidden by default. If a feature appears missing, open the sidebar first before assuming it isn't available.

## Offline mode

DishInk works offline for core operations. When you lose internet, the following modules stay fully functional:

* Point of Sale
* Waiter Interface
* Kitchen Display System
* Table Management
* LAN Monitor
* Inventory (read-only)

All other pages (reports, settings, payroll, etc.) require an active connection and will show an **Internet required** screen with quick links back to the offline-capable modules.

## Staff permissions and role restrictions

What appears in your sidebar depends on your role:

* **Owners and Managers** see everything
* **Other staff roles** (Waiter, Cashier, Kitchen) only see items their permissions allow
* Items you don't have access to are hidden entirely — not just greyed out
